The right place at the right time is a small and fragile space threatened by the inability to speak or act. A problem easily solved by preparation. Crafting an elevator pitch is great preparation for networking.
An elevator pitch is a concise package communicating your strengths, your wants, and how the person/company will benefit from giving you what you want. It’s a verbal highlight reel. In a time frame from 30 seconds to 2 minutes you should be able to transform from complete stranger to potential partner.
Here’s a quick exercise to jump start the creation of your elevator pitch. Grab a sheet of paper and answer these questions.
- What do you want?
- Do you have any experience or strengths supporting what you want?
- How will someone benefit from giving you what you want?
- What is unique from you and the other people who want what you want?
- What is your best form of delivery: humor, factual, etc.
Speed networking mixers are designed to make several connections in a very short amount of time and are the perfect place to premier your elevator pitch. Networking is daunting. Walking up to a group of strangers and pulling a conversation out of thin air is uncomfortable for many. Speed networking is the solution; it’s a pressure-free form of networking.
The HOPE Scholarship is hosting its annual speed networking mixer. During our event, you’ll have conversations exploring potential business opportunities between you and the person across the table from you. When time is up, you get to meet someone new. This format allows you to meet the majority of the room while having fun in the process.
HOPE’s speed networking mixer is sure to be a series of right place at the right time moments. We invite you to mix, mingle and network on March 15th.
